Existing Solutions Abroad

Following my Assumption Mapping exercise I looked to answer the question "What other solutions are there already?" and "Can ideas be applied from overseas?". I avoided the obvious government solutions like street planning, and transport lines and analysied creative and unique solutions not found in NZ. I used online resources and what I have seen in my own overses experiences.
The most interesting ideas I looked at were:
-The complexity of London Tube Maps and how different district lines are broken up for easier navigation
-Using art and sculpture to integrate and enhance the appearance of public transport vehicles and transport hubs i.e. Tram decoration in Japan
-Gamification of transport hubs (i.e. swings on bus stops in Montreal)
-Looking at private forms of shared transport to ease congestion - high tech taxi concept in NY City USA inclusive of extreme users
-The "Transport for Edinburgh" app which integrates google maps and free wifi on public transport to give users a full accessible mobile guide around the city ( i.e multi modal options, walking times, and a personal schedule)
This exercise gave me a few ideas and directions I could follow, and will be useful when I visit Dominion Road to get my brain ticking.
