Need
There is a need to enhance and encourage night time multi modal travel along the Dominion Road corridor and its neighbouring residential side streets by altering, designing or improving current or non-existent safety and security systems. Fufilling this need will allow locals, visitors, and forigners to safly navigate the corridor outside of their vehicles withour the fear of harm or danger. Therefore stakeholders will be more encouraged to use the public transport system as elements of confidence, interaction and security are introduced into their Dominion Road experience.
Stakeholders
The proposed solution will influence the coming and goings of all stakeholders in Dominion Road, but will target irregular visitors, foreigners and extreme users that due to inexperience or infamilarity may present vulnerabilities or naivety at night. The solution must also consider unwanted user groups such as vandals and petty criminals who may cause issues in design implementation and practice.
Purpose
By improving the percieved security and safety on Dominion Road and the surrounding area through the implementation of physical security systems or psychological perception changes a sense of confidence will be inspired in multi modal users at night. Hence pedestrian numbers will only increase in a snowball effect leading the the project purpose of creating enough public presence on the street to create the defining elements of confidence, interaction and security via human company alone.
