Empathetic Narrations (Listen!)

After I defined my most important users I would be designing for in my Persona method, I took these user group representations a step further in a method I made up as an alternative to Empathy Mapping - Empathetic Narrations.

Writing a short story from the point of view of each persona really brought them to life for me, especially hearing actually them talk and tell their story. These narrations were lead by my previous Investigation methods - mainly the Graffiti Wall and Directed Storytelling.

I believe this method allowed me to identify what I was still assuming and didn't quite understand about the situation - for example the true danger hotspots on the street, and what actually makes peole feel safe - while giving me an audio reminder of who I am designing for once I truly begin ideating.
