Sketching Development

Today I explored the "Eyes on Street" concept, but taking it in a different direction. Took a while longer because I tried using my Wacom for the first time! (As per the drawing below.)

I had the idea of using bus stops as safe zones, or "safestops" for pedestrians in danger or who are under stress. There is an possibility for the implementation of this concept on Dominion Road as many new bus stops and shelters will be added in the new transport plan.

I envisioned the new stops would use the new designs like the ones found at the recently created Hibiscus Coast Bus Station. I analysed these existing models and found they are often seperated into thirds - including the glass and seats. I thought my design would work by taking up one third of the stop when in use, and work between these divisons to retrofit existing AT infrastructure.

After sketching my idea quickly on paper, I took one of the bus stops into photoshop and drew what I thought my idea may look like at night.

The idea allows users to pull dynamic "AutoGlass" Panels (self healing glass resistant to vandalism) across the door and division of the bus stop - locking them in via electromagnetic locking mechanisms running through the structure beams. They can then use a smart touch panel (activated when doors locked) the user can either unlock the doors, and alert community members or police of they need further help. The option will also be included to brighten outside lights, or activate a two way touch chat to talk with someone on the other side before coming out.
