Seagulls and my design?

Before I started to articulate my final form and design of my retrofitted footpath light - I had an idea that I could link the visuals of my fittings main body to an iconic figure of Auckland - the seagull.

I had a few comments my last proposed design looked "a bit sharp", "too spacey" and "techy". I can certainly agree, but the wings of the form serve a functional purpose to reduce upward light pollution and channel the luminary towards the footpath and out of peoples homes.
With this in mind I'm looking to slightly alter my design form, using bio mimicry reflect the elegant form of a seagulls wings about to take off from its perch. This will take my sharp angular design to a more well rounded and simple form, and add a poetic touch to my solution.
