Visitors often park their vehicles on the side streets of Dominion Road at night where parking is available, and make their way by foot down in the dark to the corridor to reach popular destinations such as Eden Park or the Oriental restaurant district. Likewise locals who live on these side streets walk to the main road to the same attractions.

There is a distinct lack of light on the footpaths of these side roads due to the sparse low power streetlights only focusing on the road. Pedestrians are vulnerable to theft or assault, and also face potential tripping hazards such as split concrete and slippery wet autumn leaves in the dark.

Sentinel Footpath Lighting is a retrofitted, transferable solution that attaches to the back of existing street poles to illuminate dark footpaths increasing the perception of safety and personal security. An adaptable aluminium bracket is bolted to either square or circular street poles, connecting with a tool free locking mechanism to an ASA main housing which includes a triple lithium battery for backup power. An organic formed Aluminium shell protects the housing and provides additional power with thin film solar panels, while preventing light shining into residents homes and upward light pollution. A interchangeable POM throwaway lighting component plugs into the main housing separately so the whole system can remain once the lights need replacing.

There are two lighting options - a widespread cool white LED floodlight that reaches 8-10m either side of the pole aided by a reflective underside coating on the shell. Alternatively a novelty blue metal halite spotlight can be interchanged for special events or individual street preference as a way-finding tool to "follow the breadcrumbs" down to the corridor.

The system components use tool free maintenance to allow cost efficient replacement, labor, and interchangeable transfer to where lighting is most needed.
